Some of you may have heard of the horrific crash on Halloween night that claimed the lives of three local teenage boys up on Skyline Blvd. Sadly, one of the boys was the son of the Menlo Fire apparatus mechanic Rudy Torres. His son Ricardo, was a South Bay Regional Fire Academy student and fire explorer for Menlo. At least one of the other two victims was also a Menlo fire explorer.
See below for information regarding the two services held next week for Rudy Torres' son and the victims of the horrible crash. There is also information regarding a GoFundMe account that has been set up for Rudy's family. Feel free to distribute to any other fire mechanics or agencies you deem appropriate.
Palo Alto Fire Department
I just received information regarding next week's services:
6:15 pm Wednesday Nov. 8th rosary service
1:30-2:30 Thursday Nov. 9th service (Church of Nativity 210 Oak Grove Avenue Menlo Park).
Menlo Fire Chief will be submitting more formal information soon regarding possible station coverage and apparatus requests during this time. This is all I have for now.
Menlo Fire is passing on information for a GoFundMe account that has been set up to assist Rudy's family during this very tragic time. See the following message:
Many of you have asked how you can help the Torres family during this very difficult time. With Rudy’s permission, we have set up a GoFundMe account for anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to the family for funeral costs for Ricky or any other unexpected expenses. The link to donate is https://www.gofundme.com/ricky-torres.

Due to recent emails and rumors about the California Fire Mechanics Academy we the board feel it necessary to clear the air. Let me assure you that the California Fire Mechanics Academy is doing fine. True there have been some personnel changes and a new Vice President elected. We are moving forward with a positive attitude and the common goal of providing the best possible training in the industry with the students best interest in mind as we have done for close to 50 years. Anyone of the board members is more than happy to discuss any concerns you have with the future of the California Fire Mechanics Academy personally one on one. We have new training coming and a new location coming in the future. We are diligently working to be able to provide new classes and keep up with changes in technology and certification requirements.
