DRESS CODE POLICY

The California Fire Mechanics Academy (CFMA) Board of Directors is committed to fostering a professional learning environment while ensuring the safety of all students, instructors, and staff. This policy establishes dress code standards that promote professionalism in the classroom and provide appropriate protection during hands-on training on the drill grounds.

Scope

This policy applies to all students, instructors, and participants enrolled in or attending CFMA courses, whether in classroom settings or on the drill grounds.

General Standards

Students are expected to dress in a manner that reflects professionalism and respect for the Academy’s mission. Clothing should be neat, clean, and appropriate for a professional training environment. Attire that is offensive, unsafe, or disruptive to the learning environment is not permitted.

Safety Requirements

Certain courses involve hands-on training, practical exercises, or exposure to equipment and machinery. For these courses, students may be required to wear specific safety attire, including but not limited to:

  • Safety boots (steel-toe or equivalent protective footwear)

  • Coveralls or shop coat

  • Eye protection (ANSI-approved safety glasses or goggles)

  • Hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs)

  • Helmet (hard hat or approved protective headgear)

Students must comply with all safety attire requirements as directed by course coordinators or instructors. Failure to do so may result in removal from the training activity until compliance is achieved.

Course-Specific Requirements

Course coordinators and/or official course announcements may specify additional dress or safety requirements tailored to the subject matter. Students are responsible for reviewing course materials in advance and arriving prepared with the required attire. Any student uncertain about dress expectations should contact the course coordinator prior to the start of class

Enforcement

Instructors and coordinators are authorized to enforce this policy in both classroom and drill ground settings. Students who fail to comply with dress code or safety attire requirements may be:

  • Asked to change into appropriate attire, or

  • Restricted from participating in class or training activities until compliance is met.

Repeated or willful violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the course.

Responsibility

It is the responsibility of each student to:

  • Arrive prepared with the required attire and safety equipment.

  • Maintain their clothing and protective gear in good condition.

  • Follow all instructions provided by instructors and coordinators regarding dress and safety.
