EVT3A – Human Resource Management, Fleet Specifications & Records

Human Resource Management, Fleet Specifications & Records is the advanced management-level course in the California Fire Mechanics Academy’s Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification pathway. It prepares experienced technicians and fleet supervisors to oversee personnel, manage records, and ensure compliance with NFPA and State Fire Training standards.  The EVT3 course shifts the focus from hands-on mechanical systems to the administrative, supervisory, and compliance responsibilities of emergency vehicle fleet management. Designed for senior technicians, shop supervisors, and those pursuing leadership roles, EVT3 provides the knowledge and tools to manage people, resources, and documentation effectively.  This course is aligned with NFPA 1071: Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualifications and is recognized by California State Fire Training (SFT) as part of the EVT Level III certification series.

By the end of EVT3, participants will be able to:

  • Apply human resource management principles to supervise, train, and evaluate emergency vehicle technicians.

  • Develop and implement fleet specifications, ensuring apparatus meet operational needs, safety standards, and NFPA requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including maintenance logs, compliance reports, and certification tracking.

  • Oversee shop operations, including workflow, safety programs, and resource allocation.

  • Interpret and apply NFPA standards and State Fire Training requirements to fleet management practices.

Certification Pathway:

EVT3A is the capstone course in the EVT Level III certification series.

Completion of EVT3A, along with prior Level I and Level II courses, qualifies students to test for EVT Level III certification through State Fire Training.

Why EVT3A Matters:

While EVT1 and EVT2 focus on technical systems, EVT3 equips leaders with the management, compliance, and organizational skills necessary to run a professional fleet operation. Graduates of EVT3 are prepared to not only maintain apparatus but also to lead teams, manage resources, and ensure that their organizations meet the highest standards of safety and accountability.
